There are many religions in Beijing but not all ways being able to practice freely. The freedom of religion is in the Chinese constitution, but throughout recent history, changes have been made so that it makes it hard to practice certain faiths. With these changes Beijing's religions are vast, and include Daoism or Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. There is evidence that these faiths still live on, from the Tanzhe Temple dating back to the Jin Dynasty, 3rd century AD (the largest Buddhist temple in Beijing) and the Temple of Heaven which has been used to for the Emperor to pray to the heavens for good harvest.
